Friday, 23 May 2025

1:00pm – 2:00pm

Leisure & Culture Dundee’s Summer Organ Sessions return for another year, featuring exciting younger players from across Scotland.

Michael Chamberlain is the outgoing Senior Campbell Watterson Organ Scholar at the University of St Andrews, where he read for a Masters in mathematics. Michael is the organ scholar-elect at Portsmouth Cathedral and will take up this new post in September 2025.

Michael began his studies as an organ scholar at Ss Peter and Paul, Olney, in 2013. Under Lee Dunleavy, he was made assistant musical director of the church choir in 2017, and his responsibilities included conducting the choir as well as accompanying sung morning services and evensongs. Since then, Michael has studied organ under Anne Marsden Thomas, James Parsons, and Dr Tom Wilkinson, and has benefitted from regular masterclasses by Thierry Escaich, Thierry Mechler, Vincent Bernhardt, and Henry Fairs.

Outside of playing the organ, Michael is a keen composer and enjoys collaboration on all types of keyboards, ranging from playing continuo in Baroque ensembles to playing synthesiser in pit bands!
