Organ centenary celebrations

FOCHO has marked the centenary of the inauguration of the organ in the Caird Hall, which was opened with a recital by its designer, the blind organist Alfred Hollins, in June 1923. FOCHO President Gordon Stewart gave the centenary recital, which contained a number of echoes of the inaugural programme as well as including a piece by well-known Forfar organist William Bernard, Gordon’s teacher, and a new piece by the Scottish composer Helen Leach.

Before the recital, a civic reception was held in the City Chambers to commemorate the centenary and also to celebrate the work of the Friends, belatedly marking their 10th anniversary which occurred during the pandemic.
