On 20 January 2019 over 40 of our members and a similar number of their guests joined us for Soup and a Song – and More! There had been a heart-stopping moment two days earlier when our intended performers, organist Gordon Cree and mezzo-soprano Cheryl Forbes, notified us that they were ill and unable to travel. Some eleventh-hour frenetic activity on the part of City Organist Stuart Muir secured the services of two talented young musicians – organist Aaron Hawthorne and soprano Louise Sheridan – who proved to be more than adequate substitutes. Aaron coaxed lots of lush sounds from the organ, displaying the talent that led to him being voted UK Young Cinema Organist of the Year in 2017, and Louise showed why she is in such demand as a wedding singer in the west of Scotland. We’re most grateful to them for saving the day, and hope that we may welcome them back to entertain in the Caird Hall in the future.
